WATERLOO -- Robert L. Briden, 79, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Sept. 8, at Ravenwood Specialty Care.
He was born on Feb. 3, 1937, in Waterloo, son of John and Rosina (Lippert) Briden. He married Betty Lou Schutte; they later divorced. On July 13, 1972, he married Rosilda Munevar in Galena, Ill.
Robert graduated from Waterloo East High in 1955. He then attended Grinnell College and Gates College. Robert partnered with his parents to grow WBM Marine, formerly known as Waterloo Boat and Motor.
Robert was involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Exchange Club and Jaycees. He started a businessmen’s group, BNI, now known as Cedar Valley Networking. Robert was also a consultant for Nikken. In June 2000, he was on the cover of Boat and Motor Dealer magazine. Robert was the founder and past president of Iowa Marine Dealers Association. He played the trumpet in a band, The Dancibles, also known as Lee Four, and was an usher for First Presbyterian Church and a deacon for Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was a member.
Survived by: his wife; two sons, Kevin Lee (Julie) of Waterloo and John Ray (Tina) Briden of Dixon, Ill.; three grandchildren, Lynn (Joe) Bauer, Leah Hoffman and Jacob Briden; three step-grandchildren, Layla (Jeremiah) Meyer, Bijan Noghrehkar and Matthew Noghrehkar; and four great-grandchildren, Kienen, Riley, Levi and Isaac.
Preceded in death by: his parents; a brother in infancy; and a grandson, Jesup Briden.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today, Sept. 11, at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo.
